Welcome to my "Shop Policies".
Please read the entire page through carefully before placing your order as I will require that all sales adhere to the posted policies. This will keep it easy on my end, fair to all buyers, and help keep the costs of items down.
For retail customers; You may purchase buttons through my Etsy store, SeaAirArts where all the items listed are finished and ready to ship, or through this web site (where they are made-to-order) and the following policies apply...
Payment is required at time of purchase. Your order will be started as soon as payment is received. The shopping cart system I use is through PayPal though you do not need a PayPal account to use it. I will start cutting and firing glass as soon as PayPal notifies me that I have an order. It will take two to four weeks to complete your order and get it shipped, depending on order backlog and size. I will keep you updated as to your order status via e-mail.
Never used PayPal? In a nutshell, you do not have to have a PayPal account to pay with a credit card. Your purchase and CC transaction will be processed through PayPal as they are my chosen processor. Your purchase will show up on your statement as a “PayPal *SeaAirArts” charge but, other than that, it is no different than any other credit card payment. The benefit to this system is that PayPal has been around for years and is very reliable and secure. Also, I (or any other merchant who uses them) will never have access to your credit card information or number, keeping you even safer.
PayPal is free to the buyer, any fees charged for transactions are paid by the seller (except if paying in a foreign currency).
All shipping is US Priority Mail. It allows me to track the package and the delivery times are reliably quick. Packages also have a much better chance of actually arriving at their destination. All orders that total over $74.00 (US) before adding tax or shipping will be insured for both of our protection. International orders will be considered and calculated on a per-case basis and shipping charges will be billed via PayPal invoice. Nothing will be shipped until all payments are received.
Orders of multiple items will be combined for shipping when possible and charged accordingly, this usually works out cheaper for the buyer and I like to keep both our costs as low as possible. Once your order is placed your shipping is calculated by the shopping cart system. If you have already paid for your order, any shipping and insurance differences that exceed $2.00 will be adjusted by invoice or refund.
I will ship to all US holdings as well as Canada, Ireland, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. Other locations will be considered on an individual basis.
Returns are Cheerfully allowed for a defect in workmanship, if we ship the wrong item, if you feel an item is not as it was represented to be on our website (please understand that each button is hand made and there will be slight differences from one button to the next and from the photos on the web site), or if you just truly hate it. We will work with you to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
Please make sure your color choices are what you want and the item is to your liking before ordering as shipping is only refundable if the error is ours. Be aware that monitors often do not represent colors accurately. I have made the photos as accurate as possible on my monitor but yours may display them differently. If a color match is needed you can send me a color chip and we can do our best to find something that coordinates.
Every effort will be made to pack items carefully. Should an item be damaged in shipping please contact me immediately (within 10 days) and we will work together to get the situation resolved and your item replaced. On the up side; in the fifteen years I have been selling online, I have NEVER had a package damaged or lost in the mail. Knock on wood. :-)
~~ Supporting American Artisans ~~
Each of my buttons is hand made by me in my glass studio in SE Michigan. The glass I use is made by American Artisans as well. I use: Bullseye Glass, hand made in Portland, Oregon. Uroboros Glass, also hand made in Portland, Oregon.
Royal Art Glass, hand made here in Michigan.
Full disclosure, the button backs and the epoxy I get from a supplier in the US but where they got them...?
Each button is individually designed and made by me. It is fired in a professional programable kiln to the optimum temperatures and times for a secure fuse and a full annealing schedule for durability and beauty. Enjoy!
~~ Button Sizes ~~
Wondering what button size is best for your project? As a general rule, for most sweaters and jackets where you want more than 2 buttons I would recommend the 3/4" (19mm) size. This is a common and appropriate general size for sweaters and jackets. For a bolder statement, or a garment where you want to make the button a focal point use a 1" (25mm) size. These are a little heavier so a mid to heavy weight sweater or jacket is best here. The 1" buttons are also perfect for purse flaps and other accessories. For a lighter weight garment you may want the 1/2" (13mm) size as they are a little more delicate in appearance and lighter weight. Still not sure? E-mail me with your specific project and I can help!
~~ Button Weight ~~
Wondering why I list the button's weight? Afraid a glass button is too heavy? Here is a frame of reference; a typical 3/4" pewter button weighs approximately 5g (grams), a US quarter weighs 5.6g, a US nickle weighs 4.9g, a US penny weighs 2.5g, and a US dime weighs 2.1g. This should help you judge if the button you are looking at will be appropriate for your intended use.
~~ The Care and Feeding of Glass Buttons ~~
Glass buttons are surprisingly durable but some care is prudent for a long and happy life. Your glass buttons can be gently hand washed in cool soapy water. Be careful not to knock them against a steel or cast iron sink and a long soak is not recommended. Dry Cleaning chemicals can alter the look of many of the metallic finishes used on some of the button styles and is therefore not recommended either. And never put your glass buttons in the washing machine or dryer.
If your shiny glass gets finger prints just wipe with a micro-fiber cloth and it will shine right up!
Wondering what to use them on? Any fine wearable garment such as a jacket or sweater that can be hand washed. They also are great for accessorizing a hand made purse or replacing boring buttons on an otherwise great outfit. I can't tell you how many expensive wool blazers I have bought over the years and replaced the cruddy buttons immediately with something far more appropriate; a fine glass button! :-)
~~ Need something tweaked? Let's talk... ~~
Need a color tweaked a little? Do you just love a button but the colors are not quite perfect for your treasured garment? Then e-mail me. Since all the buttons on this site are made to order, it's easy to make some minor adjustments. You can send a .jpg of your garment or fabric - large view so I can see the overall pattern or style - to
seaairarts @ icloud . com. Or, snail-mail me (address above) a snippet (2" x 2") of your fabric (or a paint chip) that contains the colors you are most concerned with. I'll put some glass colors together with your fabric sample and e-mail you a picture(s) so you can see how well they play together.
You can also check out our pre-made or OOAK (one of a kind) buttons in our Etsy Shop for more ideas or a solution.
